Mobile phones in Turkey are expensive, and to stop the flow of imported “gray” phones to Turkey, which are then sold cheaper, the government introduced strict control over imported phones.

In accordance with the old regulations, it was possible to register a new phone in one name every 2 years.

By presidential decree, the term of registration of one mobile device increased from 2 to 3 years. Thus, a citizen of the Turkey Republic will be able to register only one mobile phone in one name within three years.

Changes in the article of the tax code №4760 also affected the abolition of the limit of duty-free purchases from abroad. According to the new amendment, the customs duty of 18-20% will be applied to all goods from abroad, regardless of their value.

The law comes into force 15 days after its publication in the official Gazette – from June 1st, 2019.
